ABOUT PROJECT

The Science for Peace and Security Program (SPS: The Science for Peace and Security Programme) promotes dialogue and applied cooperation based on scientific research, technological innovation and information exchange between NATO member states and partner countries. With this support, the NATO SPS project, which started in January 2023, will be completed in November 2024. The project was carried out by Prof. Dr. Peter BAUMANN from the Computer Department of Constructor University (Bremen, Germany). Other international partnerships Prof. Dr.  Colin PRICE (TAU) and Researcher from the Greenland Research Institute. It is carried out under the coordination of Karl ZINGLERSEN.

CUBE4ENVSEC is a system with Artificial Intelligence added to an autonomous structure, bringing together data providers from the USA, Europe and Asia who provide data cubes about the Earth to create a transparent partnership for users.  Within the scope of the NATO SPS Project, Cube4EnvSec Datacube services for monitoring environmental problems and aviation security are included in this data center, https://cube4envsec.org/index.html#partners.

In this process, studies on severe weather events-climate change analysis, climate change, wind and solar energy potential simulation studies are carried out in the Eastern Mediterranean Region with big data, local and temporal analyzes and future simulations by using Machine Learning, Hybrid Modeling methods.  In this context, especially our early career academicians, students make significant contributions to scientific publications.

Aims of the actionA1: To establish an operative framework by an Integrated Information System (IIS) to model yields of severe weathers (thunder and lightning) under different scenarios of Climate Change in Mediterranean areas in order to evaluate the risks of such changes. This part includes:
a) Statistical analyses, time series analyses, dynamic models,
b) Application of advanced data mining techniques on weather data for building future scenarios by including local data sets.
c) To use the integrated information system as a Decision Support System (DSS) to define the most suitable strategies to enhance adaptation to Climate Change and to support the actions.
A2: To determine wind, solar and wave energy potential at study areas,
a) Descriptive statistics and simulations,
b) Definition of role of climate changing on hybrid energy potential.
Expected outputs2.1. Guidelines to improve severe weather conditions (thunderstorms) under different scenarios of Climate Change.

2.2. An information system integrating GIS technology and remote sensing technology with software tools for modelling the effects of different scenarios of Climate Changes at the service of local community to simulate and forecast risks in function of climate data (Models and Decision Support System based on simulations).

2.3.Raising awareness of climate changing and risks.

2.4. Raising awareness of renewable energy
